| DescriptionGirl with ponytail-Women at the Quern.jpg |
Detail from an 18th century woodcut called "Women at the Quern and Luaghad with a view of Talyskir" Deutsch: Das Mädchen links im Bild trägt einen Pferdeschwanz (Holzschnitt aus dem 18. Jahrhundert)
English: Detail from an 18th century engraving showing a girl and an older woman grinding grain. The quern rests on the skirts of the woman on the right, possibly to catch grain. Each is wearing a tonnag (a tartan shawl) over her shoulders.[1][2] The stìom (ribbon worn around the head) indicates that the wearer is unmarried; the girl also wears a ponytail.[3] The older woman wears a bonnet (muidse[4]).[2] |
