# MathAxisAlignment

Inline mathematical formulas are normally vertically aligned with respect to the so-called "math axis" (e.g. vertical position of the center of minus sign or fraction bar). In the old PNG mode, the images are aligned with the CSS rule vertical-align: middle, which is good enough in some cases but is incorrect in others. The math axis is now used in the MathML mode with SVG fallback. For example ${\displaystyle {\sum _{i=1}^{n}n^{2}}+{\frac {\frac {{\sqrt[{5}]{\frac {p}{q}}}+\alpha _{\beta _{\gamma }}}{x^{y^{z}}}}{3}}-{\frac {\sqrt {2}}{\pi }}}$ or ${\displaystyle -{\frac {\pi }{\sqrt {2}}}+{\frac {3}{\frac {{\sqrt[{5}]{\frac {p}{q}}}+x^{y^{z}}}{\alpha _{\beta _{\gamma }}}}}+{\sum _{i=1}^{n}n^{2}}}$ should be aligned with respect to the math axis.
